Characteristics General Purpose, Through-Hardening. Good wear resistance and toughness with low distortion. High Wear Resistance, Good Toughness, and low distortion. This material is the choice where long tool life is required. Suited for general tool room use. A relatively low alloy, oil hardening tool steel that shows little distortion or size change in heat treatment. It has good depth of hardening and a relatively fine grain structure. High toughness, shock resistant. A good general purpose tool steel that can be used for general toling and molding applications. This grade can be either quenched in air or oil depending on section size.
