317/317L stainless steel is a modified version of 316, containing higher amounts of chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. The increased levels of those elements provides for an improvement in corrosion resistance and strength compared to 304 and 316. Also, 317 has a higher creep strength and stress to rupture at elevated temperatures. It is typically used in oil and petroleum equipment, food processing, pulp and paper processing equipment, and textiles.
