An excellent high carbon steel. 52100 was developed for use as industrial bearings and has excellent wear resistance and strength. 52100 makes an excellent knife. This alloy and all our alloys have been properly annealed. You do not have to do any non-standard wasteful processes to harden the steel. Follow the heat treat recipe and the steel will get hard.

This rectangle bar measures 0.188 inches in thickness, 2 inches in width, and 11.6 inches in length. It is made from 52100 carbon steel, known for its high carbon content (0.93 - 1.1%) and alloy elements like chromium (1.4 - 1.6%) that provide excellent wear resistance and strength.

The 52100 alloy bar is supplied annealed, meaning it has been properly softened. You do not need any non-standard or wasteful processes to harden it; simply follow the recommended heat treatment recipe to achieve the desired hardness.

Yes, 52100 carbon steel is an excellent choice for knife making due to its wear resistance and strength. It was originally developed for industrial bearings, making it suitable for applications requiring durability and toughness.

The bar weighs approximately 1.79 pounds for shipping and is currently in stock, ready for purchase and delivery.

This bar is produced using a cold rolled process, which typically results in a smooth surface finish and precise dimensions suitable for machining and fabrication.
