Litz wire is a special type of multi-strand magnet wire. Its unique construction mitigates skin and/or proximity effects and lends to fewer losses in high frequency applications. As such, litz wire is ideal for switch-mode power supplies, high Q coils, and many other specialized applications that require minimal losses at higher frequencies (e.g. aviation, medical, laboratory, and communication uses). This wire is designed for an ideal operating frequency of 100 kHz, and it meets the NEMA MW 80-C standard for operating temperature (155°C / 311°F) and insulation makeup.
